Rwanda, Liberia Deepen Bilateral Ties with New Cooperation Agreements
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of Rwanda, H.E. Olivier J.P. Nduhungirehe, has concluded an official visit to the Republic of Liberia, during which he held a high-level bilateral meeting with H.E. Hon. Sara Beysolow Nyanti, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Liberia.
The visit marked a significant milestone in the growing diplomatic and bilateral relations between Rwanda and Liberia. At the heart of the engagement was the signing of two key Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) aimed at strengthening cooperation between the two nations.
The signed agreements include:
Visa Waiver Agreement: While Rwanda already operates a visa-free entry policy for all African nationals, including Liberians, Rwandan nationals traveling to Liberia have been required to obtain a visa. The new agreement removes this bottleneck, establishing reciprocal visa-free travel for Rwandans, and laying the groundwork for broader mobility between the two nations.
Speaking after the signing ceremony, Minister Nduhungirehe emphasized Rwanda’s commitment to enhancing regional cooperation and building strong bilateral partnerships based on mutual respect and shared development goals.
For her part, Minister Nyanti welcomed the agreements as a positive step toward revitalizing Liberia’s partnerships within Africa and commended Rwanda for its leadership in innovation, governance, and sustainable development.
The bilateral meeting also provided an opportunity for both sides to explore new avenues of cooperation in areas such as digital transformation, women’s empowerment, peacebuilding, and post-conflict recovery.
