Rwandan Diaspora
The Rwanda Community in Ghana – RCG – Umuryango consists of about 85 members, mainly students pursuing their education in different Universities and colleges in Ghana.
About Rwanda Community in Ghana
Rwanda has a sizeable diaspora community in Ghana, Benin, Côte d’Ivoire, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Togo. The Rwanda Community in Ghana – RCG – Umuryango for instance has almost 200 consisting by over 50 percent of students pursing education at various levels- from basic to tertiary.
Similarly, there is a growing number of Rwandan expatriates working for different international organisations based in Ghana and businesspeople engaged in a growing range of sectors. In Côte d'Ivoire, the RCA is over 250 with majority being professional expatriates and their families working for various international organisations headquartered there.
In Benin and Togo, the Rwandan Communities there number over 100 and largely professionals and business people engaged in a wide range of activities. Although fewer in number, the Rwandan Communities in Liberia and Sierra Leone are are growing and dynamic contributors to all national activities coordinated by the High Commission. For instance, RCA members contributed to successful presidential and parliamentary elections, to the #CanaChallenge, #DusangureLunch campaign for school feeding in Rwandan schools as well as to continuing contributions to programs such as Mutuelle de Santé among others.
The Community members strive to enable, stimulate and promote acquaintance, friendship and unity among Rwandans across the jurisdiction by promoting social and cultural activities and interaction with their host communities. They also provide information and facilitate connections with the host countries as goodwill ambassadors of Rwanda.
In addition, the Community addresses the needs and challenges peculiar to members by promoting co-operative efforts and developing strategic partnerships, cultural, educational, economic empowerment and other social service organizations. Also, the Community contributes in increasing awareness and facilitates access to the gainful exploitation of educational, entrepreneurial and employment opportunities in countries within the jurisdiction and elsewhere through better networking, training and other innovative programs while building partnerships with key stakeholders that will facilitate the growth of cultural, economic and educational interests between the peoples of Rwanda and the other countries within the jurisdiction.
