Rwandans in West Africa Commemorate National Heroes Day
Rwandans living in Ghana, Benin, Côte d’Ivoire, Togo, Liberia and Sierra Leone on Sunday, February 1, came together in a hybrid celebration to mark Rwanda’s National Heroes Day.
The commemoration, held both physically and virtually, brought members of the Rwandan community together to reflect on the significance of the day and its role in Rwanda’s transformation journey.
The celebrations featured insightful exchanges on the enduring legacy of Rwanda’s heroes and their contribution to the country’s progress, resilience and development.
Participants emphasized the importance of drawing inspiration from these heroes to address contemporary challenges while remaining committed to national values and collective responsibility.
Discussions also underscored the centrality of national unity in Rwanda’s history and future, as well as the need to preserve and promote Rwanda’s rich cultural and historical heritage. Particular emphasis was placed on Kinyarwanda, the single language spoken by all Rwandans, as a powerful symbol of unity and identity that continues to bind Rwandans together at home and abroad.
In her message to the communities, the High Commissioner of Rwanda to Ghana, H.E. Rosemary Mbabazi, commended the strong spirit of unity that characterizes Rwandans even while living outside their country.
She called on Rwandans in the diaspora, especially the youth, to safeguard this uniqueness and to actively contribute to building the Rwanda they envisage through hard work, innovation and resilience.
