Rwanda Seeks Ghana’s Support for OIF Leadership Bid
The Minister of Education of Rwanda, Joseph Nsengimana, paid an official visit to Accra on Friday, April 10, as Special Envoy of President Paul Kagame to the President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama.
During the visit, Minister Nsengimana was received in audience by President Mahama, where he delivered a message from President Kagame.
Central to the discussions was Rwanda’s request for Ghana’s support for the candidacy of Louise Mushikiwabo for a new term as Secretary-General of the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie (OIF).
The meeting provided an opportunity to share the Secretary-General’s strategic vision for a more results-oriented Francophonie, focused on delivering tangible benefits to member states, particularly in areas such as education, cultural exchange, and economic cooperation.
Both sides also highlighted the growing cooperation between Rwanda and Ghana within the Francophonie framework.
Ghana, which recently attained full membership status in the OIF, continues to deepen its engagement with the organization.
Notably, Rwanda and Ghana are among four countries currently benefiting from the OIF’s programme supporting the mobility of French language teachers, an initiative aimed at strengthening linguistic capacity and promoting multilingual education.
