The High Commission of Rwanda in Ghana is seeking to recruit a dynamic, versatile and self-driven individual to serve as the Communications, PR & IT Officer, to support the work of the Mission in Ghana.

Rwanda’s High Commission in Ghana concurrently covers the Republics of Cote d’Ivoire, Benin, Togo, Liberia and Sierra Leone.

The terms of reference for the position are below:

Role

The Communications, PR & IT Officer plays an important role within the work of the High Commission in fostering relations between Rwanda, Ghana and the countries within the diplomatic jurisdiction. 

The primary function of the position is to develop, implement and monitor the High Commission’s overall communication, public relations and IT strategies while ensuring the positive visibility of Rwanda through various media outlets. Additionally, the person in this position assists the department in charge of Trade and Economic relations.

Key responsibilities

  • Ensure all communications & branding goals are aligned with High Commission’s action plan.

  • Following & preparing daily news briefs on local, regional and international news & flash reports on breaking news relevant to Rwanda or the host countries.

  • Capture weekly highlights of the High Commission activities.

  • Develop a weekly update on key political and economic developments across the jurisdiction.

  • Developing & managing an effective media outreach program based on the High Commission’s plan of action

  • Draft press releases and ensure the production of other creative materials as needed

  • Speech and editorial writing

  • Manage & update the High Commission’s website & all digital platforms

  • Manage & maintain regular media relations

  • Develop & maintain a database of audio-visual content

  • Carry out and support any other requested communication-related tasks

Qualification

  • A bachelor’s degree in communications/ public Relations, International Relations, or another relevant field

  • 3 years of communication, PR and IT experience and events coordination in Ghana.

Skills and competencies

  • Proficiency in social media management and content creation for multi-media platforms;

  • Conversant with photography and internet aided research;

  • Skills in graphic design (e.g. Adobe Creative Suite) and audiovisual production;

  • Experience in communications or media related fields, and connected within the local and regional media fraternity;

  • Working knowledge in public service and political awareness;

  • Comprehensive knowledge of Rwandan political environment; foreign policies, laws, regulations and procedures is a plus;

  • Ability to work independently and without close supervision;

  • Strong written, oral and non-verbal communication skills;

  • Solid critical thinking and analytic skills;

  • Excellent organizational, planning and time management skills;

  • Strong interpersonal and conflict management skills;

  • Strong work ethics;

  • Excellent marketing skills;

  • Able to maintain high quality work under pressure and tight deadlines and an excellent multitasker;

  • Able to build, maintain and leverage on networks;

  • Be results-oriented, accountable, flexible, creative, trustworthy

  • Language proficiency: fluent in English orally and excellent writing ability. Knowledge of French and at least one largely spoken Ghanaian language will be an added advantage.
