High Commissioner Mbabazi Concludes Working Visit to Kumasi
High Commissioner Rosemary Mbabazi, on Saturday August 8, 2026, concluded a two-day working visit to Kumasi, the capital of the Ashanti Region and Ghana’s second largest city.
The visit was made to engage with the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), where Rwandan students have studied for several decades across a wide range of programmes.
On arrival, she was received by the KNUST Vice Chancellor, Prof. Christian Agyare, and members of the university’s management. The two sides discussed ways of deepening Rwanda’s relations with the university.
On Friday evening, the High Commissioner met Rwandan students at KNUST. The gathering coincided with this year’s Umuganura Day.
On the second day, she joined the International Students Association of KNUST, the leadership of the International Programmes Office, university officials and hundreds of young people for the third edition of the KNUST International Students Cultural Festival, held under the theme “Celebrating Our Heritage.” Participants came from more than 15 African countries.
Rwandan students performed a traditional dance and presented a short film on Rwanda’s cultural heritage, which won them the Outstanding Performance Award.

In her remarks, High Commissioner Mbabazi said practical unity among Africans in education, trade and business, among other areas, is necessary to realise the Africa we want.
“Travelling in the Ghanaian countryside, interacting with people and visiting places, and looking at you all this evening and the cultural displays we have been treated to, I am always amazed at how much of what defines Rwanda and East Africa is represented everywhere. We have more in common than what can ever divide us,” she said.
She encouraged the students to see their shared African identity as a foundation for the continent’s future and not only a feature of its past.
“I am an African from Rwanda. This is how we should all see ourselves: Africans from specific parts but the same people working to achieve the common goal of translating our immense opportunities into solutions and prosperity for all,” she added.
