Rwanda Mines Board and Ghana’s Minerals Commission Explore Opportunities for Collaboration
Chief Executive Officer of the Rwanda Mines, Petroleum and Gas Board (RMB), Ms. Alice Uwase, met Mr. Maxwell Yao Akpene Klu, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Minerals Commission of Ghana in charge of Small-Scale Mining and Industrial Minerals, during her visit to Accra.
The discussions explored opportunities for collaboration and knowledge exchange between the two institutions, particularly in the areas of small-scale mining and industrial minerals.
The meeting forms part of CEO Uwase’s engagements in Ghana aimed at learning from the country’s experience in the mining sector and strengthening cooperation between Rwanda and Ghana.
The Minerals Commission is the Ghanaian institution responsible for regulating and managing the country’s mineral resources, including the small-scale mining sector. Rwanda, for its part, has been working to formalize artisanal and small-scale mining by organizing miners into cooperatives, mechanizing operations and providing technical support and training.
The meeting formed part of CEO Uwase’s engagements in Ghana aimed at learning from the country’s experience in the mining sector and strengthening cooperation between Rwanda and Ghana. During the same visit, she held talks with the Ghana Gold Board and took part in ministerial roundtables at the Mining in Motion Conference.
Rwanda and Ghana continue to enjoy warm bilateral relations, and both sides expressed interest in building on the discussions through further engagement.
