High Commissioner Joins Asanteman in Mourning the Late Queen of Asante Kingdom
Rwanda’s High Commissioner to Ghana, H.E. Rosemary Mbabazi, joined the diplomatic corps and thousands of mourners at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi to pay her respects following the passing of the Queen Mother of the Asante Kingdom, Nana Konadu Yiadom III.
High Commissioner Mbabazi signed the book of condolence and conveyed heartfelt sympathies on behalf of the Government and people of Rwanda to His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, and the people of Asanteman.
She also paid homage to His Majesty at the palace, expressing solidarity with the Asante Kingdom during this period of national mourning.
The four-day traditional burial rites, known in Asante Twi as "Dote Yie", were held from September 14 to 18, 2025, and brought together tens of thousands of mourners from across Ghana and beyond.
Among them were prominent figures from political, religious, business, and traditional circles, as well as foreign dignitaries and members of the international community.
The ceremonies showcased the rich cultural heritage of the Asante people, with elaborate rituals, drumming, firing of musketry and cultural displays.
Traditional leaders from other regions of Ghana and West Africa joined the commemorations, reflecting a unified expression of respect and reverence for the late Queen Mother.
His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II sat in state, dressed in ‘Kuntunkuni’, a rare black mourning cloth symbolizing both grief and strength.
His solemn presence anchored the rites and underscored the deep cultural significance of the occasion.
