Major Olivier Gasasira Graduates from Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College
Major Olivier Gasasira of Rwanda’s Ministry of Defence was among senior military officers from the Africa continent who successfully graduated from the Senior Command and Staff Course 46 (SCSC 46) at the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College (GAFCSC) on Friday, August 22, 2025.
The graduation ceremony, held at the GAFCSC in Accra, was officiated by Her Excellency Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, Vice President of the Republic of Ghana and Chairperson of the Armed Forces Council.
Rwanda was represented by Her Excellency Rosemary Mbabazi, High Commissioner of Rwanda to Ghana, who joined other dignitaries and senior military officials to celebrate this important milestone.
A total of 97 officers completed the course, including 67 officers from the Ghana Armed Forces and 30 allied officers from 15 African countries. The participation of officers from across the continent reflects the College’s growing reputation as a premier institution for joint professional military education in Africa.
In addition to their command and staff qualifications, 36 officers were awarded the Master of Science in Defence and International Politics, while seven earned the Master of Science in Defence and Security Studies — underscoring GAFCSC’s dual emphasis on academic excellence and operational readiness.
In her keynote address, Vice President Prof. Opoku-Agyemang congratulated the graduands for their resilience, commitment, and discipline throughout the rigorous training. She reflected on the evolving security landscape in Africa and beyond, marked by terrorism, geopolitical shifts, climate challenges, and increasing demands for inter-agency cooperation.
“These challenges demand more than conventional responses. They call for adaptability, strategic foresight, and professional excellence,” she stated, encouraging graduates to apply their newly acquired knowledge to advance peace, stability, and development across the continent.
Brigadier General Jackson Wonje, Acting Commandant of GAFCSC, highlighted in his report that the course was designed to prepare mid-level officers for higher responsibilities in command, staff, and leadership roles. He emphasized that training focused on joint, combined, and multi-agency operations, aligning with modern military and security needs.
Major Gasasira’s successful completion of SCSC 46 reflects Rwanda’s ongoing commitment to capacity building, military professionalism, and continental cooperation in the areas of defence and security.
The Rwanda High Commission in Ghana extends warm congratulations to Major Olivier Gasasira on this achievement and wishes him continued success in his service to Rwanda and Africa.
