Minister Nduhungirehe Explores Liberia’s Cultural Heritage, Engages Youth and Strengthens Bilateral Ties
As part of his official visit to the Republic of Liberia, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of Rwanda, H.E. Olivier J.P. Nduhungirehe, visited the National Museum of Liberia, where he explored the country’s rich historical and cultural heritage.
The museum tour offered the Minister a unique opportunity to reflect on the shared histories and aspirations of African nations, and to appreciate Liberia’s enduring legacy as Africa’s first independent republic.
During the visit, Minister Nduhungirehe engaged with Liberian youth who had pursued higher education in Rwanda, many of whom are now contributing to various sectors within Liberia.
The Minister took time to listen to their personal experiences, expressing his pride in their academic and professional accomplishments.
He extended warm wishes for their continued success and reaffirmed Rwanda’s commitment to youth empowerment and intra-African academic exchange.
Strengthening City-Level and Parliamentary Cooperation
While in Monrovia, Minister Nduhungirehe met with the Mayor of Monrovia, Mr. John-Charuk Sifa, to discuss potential avenues for cooperation between Kigali and Monrovia. The two leaders explored ideas around city-to-city partnerships in various areas.
The Minister also held talks with Senator Abraham Darius Dillon, Chairman of the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee of Liberia.
Their discussions focused on deepening bilateral relations through parliamentary diplomacy, including the potential for legislative exchanges, mutual support in regional forums, and increased collaboration between the two countries’ foreign affairs committees.
These engagements follow the recent signing of two key agreements between Rwanda and Liberia - the Establishment of a Joint Permanent Commission on Cooperation and a Visa Waiver Agreement - and form part of a broader effort to operationalize the commitments made under those frameworks.
