Rwanda Mourns with Ghana Following Tragic Helicopter Crash That Claimed Lives of Senior Officials
Rwanda joined the Government and people of Ghana in mourning the tragic loss of eight individuals, including two senior cabinet ministers, following a helicopter crash on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region.
The deceased include Ghana’s Minister for Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, and Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Hon. Murtala Mohammed, along with other senior government officials and crew members of the Ghana Air Force.
In a gesture of profound solidarity, the Rwanda High Commission in Ghana lowered the Rwandan national flag to half-mast in honour of the departed, aligning with Ghana’s three-day national mourning period declared by the Government.
On the first day of national mourning, High Commissioner Mbabazi joined members of the diplomatic corps at the Jubilee House, the Seat of the Presidency, to lay wreaths in the ceremonial garden in memory of the fallen officials.
High Commissioner Mbabazi also signed the book of condolence opened at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, paying tribute to the lives lost and conveying Rwanda’s heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved families, the Government, and the people of Ghana.
In further demonstration of Rwanda’s support, the High Commissioner attended the Evening of Reflection and Remembrance, held in honour of the victims. In all her engagements, she reiterated Rwanda’s unwavering solidarity with Ghana during this difficult time.
This expression of solidarity reflects the deep-rooted bonds of friendship and cooperation between Rwanda and Ghana.
