Rwanda Reaffirms Commitment to Solar Energy Solutions at 7th Africa Regional ISA Meeting in Accra
Rwanda has reiterated its strong commitment to regional collaboration and clean energy transition as High Commissioner Rosemary Mbabazi led the Rwandan delegation to the 7th Africa Regional Committee Meeting of the International Solar Alliance (ISA), held in Accra, Ghana.
The high-level meeting brought together Africa’s Energy Ministers, policymakers, and private sector stakeholders under the shared objective of bridging the continent’s energy gap through scalable solar energy solutions.
The deliberations focused on unlocking Africa’s vast solar potential to drive sustainable development, energy security, and climate resilience.
Representing Rwanda, High Commissioner Mbabazi reaffirmed the country’s unwavering support for regional initiatives aimed at accelerating access to clean and affordable energy, while also spotlighting Rwanda’s national efforts to expand solar off-grid and mini-grid solutions, particularly in rural and agricultural communities.
During the summit, the Rwandan delegation held bilateral discussions with Mr. Ashish Khanna, Director General of ISA, exploring pathways to deepen cooperation between Rwanda and the Alliance.
These discussions focused on technical support, financing opportunities, and capacity building to strengthen Rwanda’s solar sector.
In addition, Rwanda’s team engaged with several key stakeholders including representatives from India’s Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment (GRIHA) and Alpha TND Ltd, a Ghanaian manufacturer active in solar and electricity distribution solutions, with a growing presence in Rwanda.
These engagements aimed at fostering partnerships that can support Rwanda’s clean energy ambitions through technology transfer, joint ventures, and sustainable building practices.
As part of the program, High Commissioner Mbabazi joined fellow participants on a working visit to Helios, an Independent Power Producer in Ghana.
The delegation toured the company’s Rooftop Solar Project at the Tema Free Zone Enclave, gaining insights into commercial and industrial solar models that could be adapted to Rwanda’s industrial parks and economic zones.
The 7th Africa Regional Committee Meeting of ISA concluded with a shared commitment among member states to scale up solar deployment, enhance regional cooperation, and align national efforts with global clean energy targets.
