Rwanda@31 Conference organized in Ghana to mark Kwibohora31

As part of activities to celebrate Rwanda’s 31st Liberation Day anniversary, known as Kwibohora31, the High Commission in Accra on Sunday, July 13, 2025, held a landmark conference dubbed Rwanda@31.

The event drew a large and diverse audience that included academics, business leaders, representatives from security agencies, and diplomats.

Also in attendance were Ghanaian veterans who served in the United Nations Assistance Mission for Rwanda (UNAMIR) in 1994, adding emotional resonance to the occasion.

Rwandan nationals living in Ghana and others who traveled from countries such as Côte d’Ivoire, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Togo, and Benin formed a strong diaspora presence, reflecting the significance of the event to Rwandans across the region.

Themed around the lessons and commitments from Rwanda’s 31-year post-liberation journey, the conference featured prominent speakers including Dr. Vladimir Antwi-Danso, Dean of the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College; Josephine Mukakalisa of Right to Play; and Olivier Mpenzi who joined from Ecobank Rwanda.

Each offered insights into the intersections of development, leadership, and cross-border collaboration.

In her opening remarks, Rwanda’s High Commissioner to Ghana, Rosemary Mbabazi, outlined the tremendous progress Rwanda has made since the Genocide against the Tutsi was stopped by the Rwandese Patriotic Front/Army in July 1994, attributing the nation’s progress to the visionary leadership especially in the years under President Paul Kagame.

“Human capital development is Rwanda’s main asset,” she stated, emphasizing that capacity building and skills training have remained central to governance and development efforts.

She also highlighted Rwanda’s rebranding as a "land-linked" rather than landlocked nation, citing its increasing integration into regional markets and growing niche industries such as eco-tourism.

“Rwanda is home to a big number of the world’s rarest mountain silverback gorillas and incredible tourism sites. We are tapping into these resources to create sustainable wealth,” she said.

On agriculture, High Commissioner Mbabazi pointed to Rwanda’s land consolidation policy as a cornerstone of agricultural transformation aimed not only at food security but also wealth creation.

“These achievements are the result of visionary leadership. We applaud President Paul Kagame for the great work he is doing. We believe that no obstacle is too big when people are united and focused,” she said.

She also expressed appreciation to Ghana and other partner countries that continue to support Rwanda on its development journey emphasizing the Kwibohora mantra “Rwanda’s Journey Continues”.
